Ahhh yeah, I read this. It was great, though different than- and maybe not quite as good as- K. C. beetnemesis Send a noteboard - 23/02/2012 04:01:52 AM
Of course, that's almost inevitable- Kitchen Confidential was huge.

I liked Medium Raw, but it definitely had the sense of... well, exactly what the review you posted said. Anthony Bourdain is The Man. He goes everywhere, knows everyone, is a part of the upper echelons of cuisine.

And the stories reflect that. I remember he has one chapter where he refuses to divulge anyone's names, because they're all eating some endangered animal or something. Is that the animal that's cooked in its own blood? I forget.

The point is, Kitchen Confidential had stories from 30 years before talking about doing cocaine while working at the World Trade Center, and MR has stories about what it's like to be an international celebrity who knows all the famous chefs in the world. It's not a BAD thing, but it definitely is something you're aware of.

That said, he still seems pretty down to earth, and a lot of the stuff was interesting- I remember loving the chapter on the momofuku guy.
I amuse myself.
