Our library puts a tag across the top that combines the cover prices of the books you've checked out that says, "Today you saved $54.27 by using your community supported library!" That way you don't feel so bad about supporting the tax initiatives to build more libraries.
The state of Ohio is currently trying to pass budget cuts to close my library.

As I recall, our libraries do actually give authors a (small) sum for their books being loaned out..
