You say you like Douglas Adams. Have you read Eoin Colfer's Hitch-hiker sequel, And Another Thing...? I held out for a long time because I was worried it would be a disappointment, but it's actually pretty good: an original storyline within the spirit of the originals and with some pleasing developments of Adams' own ideas.
