Nick Perumov being interviewed during the Book Fair in Sweden. More info inside. Dragonsworn Send a noteboard - 28/09/2009 05:07:07 PM
On saturday this weekend I visited the Gothenburg Book Fair in Sweden and captured something interesting on camera, that you can take part of by following the link below.

Russian fantasy novelist Nick Perumov, author of the "Keeper of the Swords" fantasy series, visited the Book Fair and the swedish Science Fiction Bookstore (SF-bokhandeln)conducted a small interview with him about the above mentioned series. I capured this public interview on camera when everybody else was only taking pictures. I have not read his books myself but thought this might be intersting to all you others

He talks mainly about what he is trying to achieve with this series and what his motivation behind it was. During the last minute of the video he is commenting on Robert Jordans The Wheel of Time and basically says he's trying to avoid following that kind of storypath Jordan and many other fantasy novelists take their characters down. He explains that he tried to avoid a story about a farmboy being taken on a dangerous mission by a magician appearing at his small village.

Because of heavy background noise, the audio is sometimes a bit muffled, but listen carefully and you can clearly make out what they are saying. The questions asked are easy to hear, just Perumovs answers are at times hard to hear.

What the interviewer says in swedish before beginning to ask in english is basically this: We are going to conduct a short interview with Nick Perumov, a fantastic author who originates from a country not far from Sweden but right now lives in a country far from Sweden, namely USA.

After the interview he proceded to signing his books and answering specific question, but by then it became very crowded and noisy and it was impossible to hear what he was saying, thus I didn't capture that.

I have seen no other interview with him on youtube so this might be a first. The interview lasts about 7 minutes.

Enjoy!

"I didn't have much to say to anybody but kept to myself and my books. With my eyes closed, I would touch a familiar book and draw it's fragrance deep inside me. This was enough to make me happy."
