The first volume of the anthology is much more extensively Medieval than I remembered it being. However, the anthology surprised me in another way this time. It had Bernart de Ventadorn's Can vei lauzeta mover, "When I see the lark move," which is an Occitan poem by a Provençal troubadour.
I started studying Old French by way of Old Occitan, which is (and I cannot emphasize the next word enough) VERY similar to Old French. The noun declensions, the vowel changes - everything is extremely close. However, Occitan is just that little bit closer to Spanish than Old French is.
