Not sure I found it that great to continue reading all the rest, to be honest.
View original postHe is the first fantasy writer I ever read who didn't have dragons and wizards and he has always been one of my favorites. I started reading these when I was about 14 and they probably had more depth than any other fantasy books I had read to that point and they made a big impression on me.

The book I read (Elric of Melnibone) did have dragons and wizards, of a sort? Albeit not the kind of wizard who can do magic with a flick of their wrist, Elric's kind of magic is rather slower and more elaborate, but still.
View original postI liked the idea of a hero so flawed and weak but at his core strong and hard enough to win and I liked the idea that he didn't do it to be heroic but because he felt he had no choice. That and Blood Guard and Giants were awesome.

It is an interesting concept, but there's something about the writing style that's just... odd. I think it's because the books are so short and concise - it reads like a summary of a novel, rather than an actual novel.
