As far as I know ... Nate Send a noteboard - 14/03/2013 07:17:34 PM

I remember reading the first two books years ago, and the third one was supposedly just a year away then, so it really has been a while. I barely remember a single thing from the books now. It's still good news, since I remember enjoying them, and I'll want to check this one out as well, but I'm curious. Did he have health/family problems?

... he was hit by some pretty hard personal events, with a close relative passing away and then his wife divorcing him, all following the successful start of his writing career and all of the increased expectations and heightened deadlines that come with that. It seems he didn't deal with the combination of increased writing pressure and awful personal issues very well, which, you know, hard to blame him. He's gone through some fairly serious depression issues that eventually resulted in therapy, and his third book has been delayed by several years. I think it's been five or six years since the last one came out.

But I'll be right there for Republic of Thieves, full of hope that the series can stay on track. The Lies of Locke Lamora is one of my all-time favourite fantasy novels, and Red Seas Under Red Skies was pretty decent as well.
