View original postShe has character growth, but it's mostly from "spoiled brat" to "manipulative shrew, who then bats her eyelashes so people still like her."

View original postIt happens even in the last book of Belgariad- when she's with 'Zakath, she flashes her "little girl smile" (that's a quote) when she annoys him, so he won't get angry.

Yes. That definitely doesn't say much for the maturity of Eddings' view on women... but it becomes something of a humourous thing later on, I don't know if it really counts as manipulative anymore when everyone involved knows perfectly well how it works, and Garion plays along just because she likes it that way.

I amuse myself.

I liked the "secondary" female characters a lot, actually - 30/03/2013 06:50:07 PM 809 Views

True, although I feel Polgara (in her own series) and Aphrael hold up well enough even in rereads. - 30/03/2013 09:12:31 PM 878 Views
Polgara the Sorceress was maybe a bit late, but Aphrael is a ffair example - 30/03/2013 10:16:26 PM 1084 Views
