Genre fiction is likely to be published in cheaper formats, and "books as an artform" is probably a good way of expressing some of the enduring appeal of books.

I do shelve a FEW paperbacks, particularly when the book in question never came out in hardcover or is so ridiculously unavailable as to preclude even attempting to get it (e.g., the Nag Hammadi codices from Brill, that bio of Louis XIV I read last year, Putin's autobiography).
