Some people love to read, but have no respect for the physical book (or other people's property in general). Others understand how important it is to keep books in good shape. Unfortunately, I've found most people don't understand, so I get why you like people not asking you.

I had a friend once who understood about books. He borrowed a book from me and made a cover for it. He returned it to me with the cover still on. I was surprised and pleased.
