Unlike what one might think, it's got nothing to do with Zelazny's Amber, but is a historical romance in Restoration England - causing a sensation when it came out in '44, selling three million copies and managing to get banned in no less than fourteen American states. That part of the blurb was enough to grab my interest... only fifty pages in so far, but I can see the offense, I guess.
