Most serious writers are hedonist and so they have all the self induced suffering a hedonist life style tends to bring. All of that misery leads to great writing but the poor Morons miss out. Or it could be that they don’t drink coffee and so they do get the proper cranial lubrication to maximize their writing talents.
So, the New York Times has asked why Mormons produce no serious writers...
