Deliberate choice? Seems more 'lazy' to me. Macharius Send a noteboard - 11/03/2014 02:02:48 PM

Here's the thing: while "modern" speech is fine in terms of making characters more accessible, some of the specific language used completely violates any sense of verisimilitude. This is an ongoing criticism of Sanderson's writing and while I've been willing to hand-wave it away when I do notice it, one instance of it in WoR with Kaladin questioning Renarin completely broke my sense of immersion in the story.

His biggest weakness is definitely the colloquialisms, no doubt. - 10/03/2014 08:38:19 PM 743 Views
Without actually having read any of his non-WoT books, I'd argue it's probably a deliberate choice. - 10/03/2014 09:02:06 PM 772 Views
