You know, you've just described what I got back to reading. Tom Send a noteboard - 14/10/2015 09:27:24 PM

It's not just that there's all the fight scenes, but how pointless the fight scenes are. About a million different knights that I've never heard about or care for, knocking each other off horses, with literally the exact same sentence structure repeated ad infinitum with different names each time - as I said, mystifying how this is such a big classic. But then, seems it's the first big English printed version of the Arthurian legends, so that alone might explain it...

Do you have any idea how many empty names appear in the Iliad? And as for stock phrases, yes, it has them, too. Even after FIFTEEN BOOKS of reading it is still slow going. I could have read about six to ten regular books in the time I've spent on this. Even so, every now and then I come across a beautiful section that makes it worthwhile.

Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.

ἡ δὲ κἀκ τριῶν τρυπημάτων ἐργαζομένη ἐνεκάλει τῇ φύσει, δυσφορουμένη, ὅτι δὴ μὴ καὶ τοὺς τιτθοὺς αὐτῇ εὐρύτερον ἢ νῦν εἰσι τρυπώη, ὅπως καὶ ἄλλην ἐνταῦθα μίξιν ἐπιτεχνᾶσθαι δυνατὴ εἴη. – Procopius

Ummaka qinnassa nīk!
