And yes, that chap Dickens has written some retellings of famous movies or stories that are actually quite decent. 
His version of Oliver Twist has an even more sugary ending than the musicals, movies, etc. , but some of the secondary characters are excellent.

I always thought Scrooge was a symbol of Presbyterian anti-Christmas sentiment.
