As a woman i can tell you that what i really enjoyed about the book was the magic system with music but what really irritated me as you pointed out was rhapsody herself..by book 2 Ashe joined the ranks and by the Assasin king Achmed the one character i actually like joined the list too and that was when i gave up on that series.
But i would also like to point out that i enjoyed the first book for interaction between the three but sometimes as one person here pointed out i wanted to smack some sense in to rhapsody.

I thought I'd read the first two only, but from your description I've also read the third.
