When the time comes, what fantasy and sci-fi series will you share with your children/nieces/nephews/random children/hypothetical children, since they all should be finished by then (then = X date in the future). Well, all except Martin's books, I suppose.
Which will you make sure they read? Which would you tell them not to touch with a 10-foot pole?

(FYI this is entirely hypothetical)
Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, Narnia, His Dark Materials for a start. Maybe Harry Potter. There's a couple I might recommend when they are a little older than that / I think they have the stamina to read them. Dune, the unmentionable series that should be finished by then.
I would recommend they don't touch aSoIaF, mentioning the violence and sex in it. I can't think of a better way to encourage kids to read it (and comes with bonus deniability).
Of course, it probably won't be finished by then...
So, the book that was released yesterday made me think:

I'm trying to decide whether I should read Sanderson before or after I get round to TGS.
