Subterranean Press is an excellent (IMO) publishing house. They publish a combination of original novels and special editions of works published elsewhere. The books are made from high quality materials and are well put together. They feature original artwork for the covers as well as scattered art throughout the novels. Almost all of the books are published in at least two editions: Limited and Lettered. The Lettered edition is the lowest print run and the most expensive. It is autographed and lettered (obviously). The Limited edition is a higher print run (as low as the 200s up to ~1000). It is also autographed and numbered. Some books are also published in a cheaper, non-autographed version that is closer in price to a standard hardback.
They take great care in shipping them, too. So far all have been in a plastic sleeve, wrapped in bubble-wrap, and then in either a padded envelope or in a box with packing peanuts.
These are definitely collector books, so the price is an issue. Many lettered editions reach up in the several hundreds of dollars. Most of the limited editions are in the $50-$100 range. The nice thing is that if you get in on the first book of a series, you can request the same letter/number for each subsequent volume they publish in that series. For example: if you bought A Game of Thrones and got #100 of the limited edition, you can request #100 for Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, and A Feast for Crows as well. The ability to get a matching set is nice.
So far I've gotten in on the Malzan series and the Dresden Files series. I own about 15 Subterranean books now and I highly recommend them if you are interested in collecting nice editions.
