To be honest, the magic school is the central setting in Harry Potter whereas in The Name of the Wind the University is his goal, but a lot of the plot occurs elsewhere. We spend more time in the actual classes in the Rowling novels and not so much with Rothfuss.
In some vague stretch, Kvothe is also a Boy Who Lived after a magic attack, but I'm really struggling to see many accurate parallels between the two novels.

It's almost as if the author decided there needed to be a little adventure to move the story along.

I did forget to mention the really horrible pun-type thing I thought of after his last scene.

The book has been compared with Harry Potter. Do you think this is fair? Why/why not? *NM*

I really couldn't say whether it was fair. Seems a weird judgement to me.
