Real motivations that make sense Sir Tybalt Send a noteboard - 25/12/2009 03:52:07 AM
I really like villains that aren't flat out evil or out for anarchy (Joker in latest Batman movie), but who have real motivations, who believe what they are doing is right and good. Those make for the best villains in my opinion.

When the character(s) you've been following since the start stops to examine their actions, whether the means will truly justify the ends, and they come up short - I love that. 'Lost' comes to mind - the heroes have been just as bad as the apparent villains on the island (the Others), spiteful, greedy, murderous, selfish.

I think it all comes down to motivation for me. Bad dudes who are just bad because it's cool to be bad (ie, any Steven Seagal movie from the 1990's) don't measure up for me.

I love grey heroes and villains who have an end they want to see take place, who believe they are right, and who will do what it takes to get to that end.

That makes me enjoy a story more. Jaimie in the Song of Ice and Fire series was a great example. *NM* - 30/12/2009 03:44:23 AM 238 Views
