Part of the point of the series is that the readers DON'T know all about the world or what is going on. If that just isn't your cup of tea, well you probably won't enjoy Erikson. He does reveal more as the series goes on, but there are always mysteries and questions.

I rank Deadhouse Gates and Memories of Ice as two of the very best epic fantasy novels that I have read. Midnight Tides follows just a bit behind those two. Deadhouse starts out a bit slow, but it is one heck of a wild ride after that.
