I generally like the variety of the posts. I've gotten good recommendations for books. Greg just got me to order Justinian's Flea and The Island at the Center of the World, for example. Larry got me to buy Umberto Eco's History of Beauty, On Ugliness and An Infinity of Lists. I'm even considering maybe reading Possession by A.S. Byatt even though I hate epistolary novels and the description made it sound like a weepy love story. My wife is enjoying The Book of the New Sun based on fantasy recommendations people here gave.
I love the recommedations too. I've tried a good number of books recommended on this site.
I hope you do try Possession. There is a love story, but I think it's about as much about that as Doctorr Zhivago is about its love story.
The name, the name, the name and the name. Oh, and did I mention I dislike the name? I also think that I don't like the name, either.
So. Reading between the lines, I can see that you don't like the name.
Seriously, I understand that Ben wants the site to "appear" as a Sci-Fi/Fantasy site when people search for it in Google or Yahoo or Bing or Ping or Pong, but even naming it "Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Other Books" would be a massive improvement.
I wonder if that would fit in the space provided. Hmm.
A dramatic recreation of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Yes please.
Seriously, I repeat my criticism of the way the drop down menus are structured and organized. I really think all the message boards should be in one drop down menu, with other resources in other drop down menus (like quickpolls, quote of the moment, directory info, etc.). Site FAQs would be in the "Directory" section. The current disorgnanized look is the result of organic growth at wotmania but not logical.
Have you posted this as a Suggestion on the Bugs & Suggestions page?
Also, I would suggest adding a poll as a type of message that could be posted, with up to maybe 10 categories. That way, people could post a message that says something like "Do you think Count of Monte Cristo is just fluff?" where the responses would be for people to click on "Yes" or "No", just like with the quickpolls.
I don't understand what you mean by this. Will you please explain a bit more?

I know, especially after the quadrumvirate broke up in 2003, with only Jake and I remaining active

I don't think it's this site so much as this board.

Nah, it's more a site-wide thing that has to do with much of anything beyond themselves

I still don't like that the board is called the "Sci Fi and Fantasy" Board.
