Poetry doesn't translate. I refuse to read it in translation; of course, even with prose I try to adhere to the maxim that seems to have driven Gibbon (based on a pithy footnote in Volume V, I think): "Always avoid translations!"
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
