a. Do I need to read Fray to understand what happens in BtVS:S8?
No, you don't.
b. Should I read Fray anyway, whether it ties in or not?
Fray is a Slayer set in the future.
c. Should I just drop the comics entirely?
Nah, they are good.
d. Are there any other comic-television tie-ins I should look at?There are the Angel:After the Fall, Spike: After the Fall, Firefly comics, and Farscape comics. The Farscape ones are pretty cool and follow after the end of the series, like everything else.

Oh, and Whedon said that Season 8 was planned and scripted before he ever heard of Twilight. And wait until you find out who Twilight is....

LOL. Nice to know I'm not the only one who's wondered.

And... that is a lot of comics. I think I'll stick to Angel and Buffy for now.
