Supposedly, There is this thing called Adonasium and all the powers/force in his book are only a piece of it. This Adonasium broke up/was broken up a long time ago and came to be on the different planets. His novels take place on different planents in the same universe.
Elantris has the Aor/Ard or whatever it was called.
Mistborn has Preservation/Ruin
Warbreaker hints at a God who sends the "gods" back to help people.

"Shard" is a generic term for Ruin, Preservation, and a number of other similarly powerful beings/forces that exist on the various planets most of Brandon's books are set on. It is mentioned in at least one of the chapter headings in Hero of Ages, along with the being that all the Shards originally came from (Adonalsium
. Adonalsium, as much as we can figure out so far, appears to be the equivalent of God. He was broken into a bunch of Shards a long time ago, and the settings of Elantris, Mistborn, Warbreaker, the upcoming Stormlight Archives, and a few more planned for the future all feature one or more Shards of Adonalsium, each of which has a major impact on the nature of the setting and that setting's magic system.
EDIT: Also Sanderson has said one of his future Mistborn novels take place in Space, so the people from different planents probably will meet each other.
There is a character too who appears in all of Sanderson's novels. IIRC, he's the informer Kelsier meets in the Fallen Empire and the storyteller in Warbreaker. I can't remember his name but he's supposedly in all the books.
