Encounters with a Kindle. callandor1000 Send a noteboard - 11/04/2010 12:22:33 AM
Its probably fairly well known that I have shown a strong dislike (some might even call it hate) for the Kindle, and indeed all ebook readers. What I have to say in this post pains me, oh so much.

I have recently had a chance to use a Kindle quite a bit. My girlfriends dad is getting the new Kindle (why I don't know since he had the old one and from what we can tell hardly used it) and asked us if we would like to have his old Kindle. Not being able to resist playing with a new gadget, we of course agreed to take it off his hands. :P

While my dislike has indeed lessened, I definitely wouldn't say I love the Kindle. I'll list my likes and dislikes.

Likes:
Easy to travel with
Free books from amazon
Size (it's fairly small, between a trashy romance novel soft cover book and a hardcover book)

Dislikes:
No traditional pages (I feel lost when I can't turn back pages easily and quickly find my way back to where I was. I do this a lot when reading)
Easy to accidently flip ahead/behind (buttons to advance/go back pages are a bit big on the side of the device)
Hard to hold (also to do with the buttons, there aren't a lot of ways to hold this, especially if you lay when you read like I do).

All in all, this device is okay, but it doesn't scream to me "must have this" or "can't live without this" or "redefines reading".

Your mom. That's right. The cat is out of the bag. Your mom.

My mind isn't always in the gutter, it just has VIP access
