I don't so much mind him butchering linguistics as long as the public at large doesn't mistake it for fact. Which is a lot less likely with a book like Snow Crash than one like The Da Vinci Code.

Quite impressive how he essentially predicted the internet before it happened, even if he did get a lot of the details wrong.

Here's a fairly old review of it on a website I visit sometimes.
