NOT Necessarily a Points/SE Suggestion, but SOMETHING.

However effectively, the old points system provided at least limited incentive to visit, contribute and interact with others. That, after all, was the point, I believe, not just some abstract attempt to "keep score" or something.

It doesn't have to be a points system, and it might be better if it weren't. Perhaps a monthly or semi-annual thread where people could "nominate" quality/prolific posters and the Admins could pick one to receive some special prize. "Admin For a Day" maybe, or a month of expanded html access or the ability to make Announcements. Or even just enshrinement in an Announced thread of "Posters of the Month. " Something desirable that wouldn't confer permanent "elite" status and would be hard to abuse, though ideally not abusing privileges would play a role in who received recognition. Not that there's anything wrong with points, but it's far from certain how much of a stimulant those were.
Yeah, lots of forums have a "karma" stat, or something similar. *NM*
