And when I say entrance exams, I mean specifically for the studies one embarks on (which makes it very difficult in the American system that allows so much changing of study subjects after initial enrollment). It's pointless to test someone on their mathematical skills if they're going to be studying languages, or the other way around.


None of the schools I attended did this, but I've heard of schools that required an application to the particular college provided the degree program of the student's choice (using "college" in the appropriate definition instead of the Americal colloquialism of using it interchangably with "university" ).
