Holding (down) the fort I'd not thought of, but he makes another good point there. And do Brits really say, "herb" the right way, instead of as if it only had three letters? Because that would really be rather amusing; the one place where most Americans (but not this one) drop their "h"s and even the people NOTORIOUS for doing so don't. No, we are not French, and neither are the Brits, and I quite agree it's past time we both started speaking accordingly. If we MUST speak a language that routinely employs letters no one ever uses, it's also past time we brought back the thorn, if only so people will stop pronouncing "Ye Olde Shoppe" "Yee... " instead of "the.... "
Most British people say "herb" with an h. I can't tell you all of them do, as there are some odd cookies around, but most...
