WRONG! "Me" is the proper dative, as well as the proper accusative, for English. "I bought me something" is incorrect only because the reflexive is not being used. "He bought me something" (changing the subject) would be ABSOLUTELY CORRECT AND WITH "ME" IN THE DATIVE.
I see what you're saying, now. Though in the last sentence I thought you were referring to the Latin me, so that was confusing at first. In any case, my post was a response to Larry saying that the construction "I bought me a ____" helped him with Latin reflexives, which still doesn't work even if me is in the dative there, since you need a reflexive pronoun.
