I'm sure you (or Wiki) are right. I've never been very good at history. Or music. I just consume and I think the Mondschein Sonate is really something that fits the bill. I love that sonata.
Not sure if it's in a minor key, though. Just as you said: let the real experts find that out. (But, please let me know, as I am now curious.)
A a side note, don't Baroque and Romantic/Mournful not contradict each other somewhat? Maybe you can go to Bach's Paasion pieces (Bach is firmly in the Baroque Box o'Composers), but other than that, I don't think Baroque stuff is really build / suitable for mournful music. Baroque was an age of courtly music, to dance to and be happy. Show the glory of God, King and/or Country. Lots of ornamentation, side steps, etc.
