Perhaps Yahoo will succeed where I failed. Though I doubt it. Whether I make the observation or Yahoo does, however, it remains ironic that Brits are usually the first to object to use of a term they invented. Association football-->soccer, to distinguish it from a host of other games (including no less than two forms of rugby and two more derivatives of it, unless you want to count Canadian pro and/or US college football as still more) that could just as easily be called "football" and often are. The British quite rightly chose a term that would unambiguously identify association football as such; likewise, I've come to refer to US football as "gridiron" when I know fans and players of other games are around, to make clear I don't mean Aussie rules, rugby league/union or soccer (and also because, much as with soccer, most Aussies will quickly recognize gridiron when I call it that. )

Oh, how simply grand it is to be travelling by dirigible again. Direct us to the west good sir, tonight we will remember what it is to live.

So, soccer is actually a British term- who knew?

That doesn't change the fact that calling a game played with hands and an oval "football" is silly *NM*

Wait, so "spherical" is implicit in the term "football"?
