It's interesting how different news articles convey or imply different facts. Birdeye Send a noteboard - 03/07/2010 09:35:19 PM

I read this article before I saw the post here. The driver survived because: the driver was injured in the accident and taken to a local clinic before the blast occurred.

Also: The vehicle began gushing oil, then burst into flames an hour later.

But then I checked another article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/10497716.stm) and it said: The truck, travelling from Tanzania, overturned and began leaking fuel.

"Petrol began to leak out but instead of fleeing people came to collect the fuel," Mr Sahizira said.

"A few minutes later there was an explosion, flames burst from the truck and spread very quickly."

Which implies the blast happened shortly after the accident.

There was no mention of a cigarette in either of these two articles, which makes me wonder if someone just embellished that fact. Especially since Tom's CNN article, which is the only one that mentions the cigarette, states: the driver managed to escape the fire. Of course he escaped it, he was away at a clinic when it happened. Oye.

Yes I'm being nitpicky about breaking news, but as I said, it's interesting how different the story looks based on different reports.
