Are you sure he didn't leave himself? There's a fair bit of changing in cycling from one year to the next usually. In any case, Saxo is supposedly going to end operations after this year, so the team will be broken up anyway...
I checked. He left Saxo Bank for Sky, it seems. Or it isn't entirely clear who left/dropped, but I assume he left. And then Sky didn't pick him for the Tour. Possibly because he has been injured.
But at least it frees me up for liking Saxo Bank
