well most schools I don't think would like you to lie to your students especially if they were trying to bring in international perspectives (as I know this school is). I am afraid they may want me to talk about America..which could get interesting.
Why wouldn't the school let me do that?? I don't know if they had a problem with it, and I never asked...so maybe that's a good thing. Hmmm...
Saudi was interesting. The first city I was in was really nice, people were great, students were fantastic (I taught ESL) -- they came because many of them wanted to learn English.
THen we moved to Riyad (aka, a prison without bars) and I was transferred to a technical school. There, the students came to learn computers/programming (I don't really care what) but they HAD to take an English course. Major difference between students who want to learn and students who have to.
I had students attempt to bribe me.
I had students attempt to threaten me (with my job, not my life).
I had students completely ignore me.
The first instance, I laughed and said No.
The second instance, I told her "I don't need my job, and you'll fail anyway, so go for it."
and the third, I had a complete flip out and went down to the principal's office and told her that I refused to teach the class again until they had respect. And I didn't go back for 10 days...I got an apology letter from the students and the principal sat in for the first few classes that I was back. Never had a problem again!

Jordan is both civilized and not anti-American, for the most part.
