I respect the part unions played when they began, but now all they do is push people around and tell you if you don't support what they are doing you are against the workers. Not sure I'd like it if they were gone, but certainly the role they play now is beyond anything I think it should be.
Unions are one of they only ways I get political ever since the printers union at my mom's work started pushing them around. It's an employee owned company, so they decided they wanted to not get some benefits in exchange for the company staying in business. It was voted for by 97% of the employees, and then the union came in throwing its weight around telling them what kind of benefits they had to strike for or they would take the union "bug" that the company gets to print on the signs. That would have taken away almost all their political revenue, so they had to capitulate. Now the company is struggling to say afloat. Maybe the cuts wouldn't have helped enough anyway, but they would be closer to profitable than they are now.
