All I'd heard about was Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Argentina so I figured Ecuador probably weren't in the mix

But right now, Ecuador's in fourth and Argentina's in fifth, the place that gives a play-off with the fourth CONCACAF team (which can still be any of the four, Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico or the US). Ecuador's got two games left to go; if Uruguay holds on for the win against Colombia right now, it puts Ecuador at 23, Uruguay at 21 and Colombia at 20. With one of Ecuador's two remaining games against Uruguay, winning that puts them out of Uruguay's reach while Colombia has tough games against Chile and Paraguay left. Venezuela is also at 18 and could also theoretically overtake Ecuador, but two of their three remaining games are Paraguay and Brazil.

Argentina might still take fourth and put Ecuador in fifth, but they certainly stand a chance against the CONCACAF team I think.


We beat them earlier this year; I'll be disappointed if they overtake us.
