"Holiday", of course, comes from "Holy Day", and originally referred to religious festivals, though in later years nations have created secular holidays (like those which celebrate a nation's independence or memorable events).

Kwanzaa is neither, and it is unclear to me why it was ever felt that there was a need for it. To have a holiday that is only for a particular race, and to do so right after the major Western religious holidays, is just absurd.

None of my black friends celebrate Kwanzaa (some didn't even know what it was when I asked, though admittedly they aren't US-born).
