<a href="http://www.theonion.com/articles/man-already-knows-everything-he-needs-to-know-abou,17990/">The Onion</a> is sometimes too close to reality for comfort.
...many people who've commented on this post are just as generalizing and ignorant as those the article satirizes.
Disturbingly close to the truth some say? Couldn't be further from it.
Some people happen to oppose a muslim-affiliated community center with a dedicated prayer area because they think it is just a stupid idea. It's aims at mending wounds are bound to only incite irrational feelings on both sides. It just happens to be my opinion that we ought to be more considerate of 9/11 victims and their families than we are to muslims who could build their community center with a dedicated prayer center elsewhere very easily. And yes, many many 9/11 victims and their families do not support the mosque...dear god, I've called it a mosque. Excuse me, it's actually just a muslim-affiliated community center with a dedicated prayer area.
But no, it's impossible that I might have a defensible or respectable point (I shudder to think that I might even be right, because any opinion not abundantly tolerant of a minority MUST be somehow racially driven). Instead, I must be a raving conservative lunatic, bound by my hatred for muslim people. The fact that they do not share the same values as me means that they must be animals in my eyes.
I am stupid. Therefore I believe that if some muslims are terrorists, then ALL muslims are terrorists.
Yes, that makes sense. Because I am a stupid, ignorant conservative.
Very ironic indeed.
**Just a footnote, I'm not responding to the article, but the individuals who have responded to the FP saying that it is so close to the truth that it's almost not funny.
