But what are you suggesting for mood elevation in those who have been told they will die? everynametaken Send a noteboard - 09/09/2010 01:41:58 AM
I guess it comes down to whether you consider the risk of suicide greater than melting walls. In terms of actually treating or curing the illness though psilocybin doesn't appear to do anything: It just makes you feel better about HAVING the illness. Just for the sake of argument, ethanol doesn't cause hallucinations (unless you're so addicted you get the DTs. )

That is what the the study looked at. The study already stated that psychotherapy doesn't do much in the terminally ill and the issue of mood is compounded by the painkillers people with cancer take as many claim (and rightfully so) that they turn the person into a drugged up zombie. And given the terminal illness the weight gain from an anti-depressant probably wouldn't be the end of the world but they take up to two months for some people to work. Other mood stabilizers like Abilify aren't mood enhancers, they just stabilize in some people (usually those with bi-polar/depression, not terminal illness).

So, while drugs are harmful (so is eating too much food or getting too much sun), I don't see the problem with investigating how people who are terminally ill do with some shrooms.
But wine was the great assassin of both tradition and propriety...
