My step father sends me whacky stuff all the time and I tried once or twice pointing out that the emails were wrong but it just hurts his feelings. He is 68 years old and he isn't going to change so I see no reason to hurt his feelings and piss him off over silly crap. Now if my twenty two year old son sends my something whacky I will probably point out why it is wrong. I would not do it by replying to all though. I don’t normally get emails from people I don’t like and I don’t publicly embarrass people I like unless it is for a very good reason.
I'm trying to decide how rude I've just been.

I don't think it was rude, but I might if I got your e-mail and disagreed with you

Well, you are a Yankee. So there's no telling what the limits of your rudeness could be.

I did not send it to my mother. She would have received it well (been there, done that).

That isn't rude. That is moral. You did the right thing. He was rude for spreading lies.

I've gotten people to take down Facebook notes replicating such emails by posting Snopes links.

I've only done that once; I mostly find them amusing, but that one was too much.
