Before answering that question, answer: "What is culture?" jh Send a noteboard - 04/10/2010 07:48:40 PM
Since, in essence, I have seen sweeping statements about culture which does not bother to define what it is all about.

Now, if we define culture in the traditional view of an opposition to nature, i. e. that culture is what is created by mankind, the answer to your question would be that it sadly does not encompass bear fights unless they are staged.

The definition of culture up there is really not applicable to your localized problem, though, since it raises a lot of question about american culture; namely is it just the things created by american mankind which should be american culture, or is it anything created by mankind which americans relates to? Or whatever, does it really matter, since culture is something those stuck up people in Yurop waste their time on instead of getting dirt under their nails?

American culture is also a problem in that it implies that there is some sort of shared culture between all americans, and we all know that is just bullshit. You have all kinds over there. Should we just normalize it and throw away things that end up in the top or bottom quartile? If so, you'll end up with Dan Brown, Stephen King, that baseball thing, and drunk driving. Oh, and Hollywood. You'd miss out on the really expensive travelling things someone (lit dog?) posted the other week, because travelling to see the world is decidedly un-american.

Maybe you should try for something that is exclusively american. Like starting wars for oil. Have you done it? Congratulations, you don't need a cultural revolution.
