In spirit I wholeheartedly agree. In practice, well, according to Wikipedia he's not scheduled for release until 2020, which means the Nobel committee just royally pissed off his jailers. Perhaps it was felt this additional pressure would motivate China to release him, but I think that might be a symptom of how badly the West misunderstands China, because it's probably going to make them LESS likely to release him. I REALLY despise the Chinese government. Note, once again, that the policy of engaging China and seducing them into human rights with the lure of Western prosperity hasn't really done anything except make Chinas despotic tyrants much wealthier and the greatest counter balance to them much weaker. At least the bankers and captains of industry are happy.
