By just not voting, they don't know if you would vote if you thought one of the candidates was worth voting for or you are just too lazy to care.

And since most most US precincts aren't going to pay any attention to over/undervotes or unreadable ballots, they'll just pitch 'em. As I noted above, in thirty-odd years of following US politics I've only see under/overvotes gain national prominence once: The 2000 election, decided by hundreds nationally while thousands of FL voters undeniably ticked Gore AFTER accidentally ticking Buchanan on confusing butterfly ballots printed in Austin, and no longer used literally ANYWHERE else in the US BECAUSE they're confusing.

Barring bizarreness like that or voting "nobody" in NV all undervotes, overvotes, blanks and unreadable ballots are beneath notice except in electorate total turnout statistics.
