I hate to say it, but I can do you one better than that, thanks to our wonderful laws.

A friend of mine has had a number of medical procedures done, and while her insurance takes care of most of it, she is responsible for some. Now the hospital billed her twice for the same thing (the bill is split up into different sections of the process I guess); and she tried to get it fixed. But the staff ignored her efforts and sent the extra bill to collections. Here's your favorite part and mine kiddies; grab your gun and bring the cat in: By simply picking up the phone call from collections, not knowing who it was, she automatically by law accepted responsibility for that payment. And Collections, of course, doesn't believe that it's a double bill, and the hospital doesn't care because the bill was handed over to collections. Even worse, she doesn't have the time, money, or energy to take it to court, and her only recourse is to pay the extra bill (after already being terribly short on money) and save her credit rating from taking a hit. Thanks a lot. Thanks a friggin' pantsload. It's enough to just make you wanna light someone on fire.
