for example, the American Veterinary Medicine Association has an insurance plan for practitioners and students.

According to the guy who spoke to us, he said something along the lines of "You only pay up to Amount X. Ever. After this point, the AVMA will cover all of your further expenses."

Now. Amount X was pretty high. And the AVMA is a particular organization supporting a well-incomed career field in high demand globally, with particular needs and risks. It is certainly in everyone's best interest to keep veterinarians on their feet.

This is really rather irrelevant to the point, I know :P I'm just giving an example of a program that is the exception to the norm.

In case you're wondering, I think the premiums were starting at something like $160/month? Which is pretty damned high, but I guess if I was a vet making 80k a year, it'd seem not so high :P
