I'm so glad Visa and Mastercard are so worried about consumers, especially given THEIR tight budgets

NOT!
Needed to be done; figures that the small businesses the GOP always says they love and work so hard for, since they are the backbone of the economy (that last part is actually true), get much needed help via an legal clause added by Dick Durbin (D-IL) and proposed by the Fed when DEMOCRATS hold the White House. I love how the credit card lobby tries to somehow hide behind small businesses in attacking this because they don't have Visa or Mastercards audacity in crying about how hard their lot is when their profiteering has helped bankrupt the country. The proof is in the pudding though; let's see if the GOP puts the peoples money where their mouths are or caves to the banking and other corporate lobbies that own them so the thing dies in committee. And if an outraged public is then convinced it failed because of the evil Democrats (if the public even hears about it at all).
I'm not a cynic, just a realist; this is something that's long been needed and I hope it goes through, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I'd like to use credit cards more without feeling guilty that it's costing the business money. *NM*

You do know Barney Frank (Democrat and major liberal and progressive) is against the change

I didn't; guess that just means he's wrong. I fail to see how opposing this is progressive at all.

It has nothing to do with being progressive, it has everything to do with his banker constituents. *NM*

I figured, but, as you say, nothing progressive in that.

It wouldn't be nearly as effective it it were; it's quite systemic, for a reason.

Sounds good to me, but it does seem like a natural monopoly, so that competition idea... eh.
