As soon as the season ends and the Texans dump Kubiak for missing the playoffs all four of my favorite teams will have fired their head coach this year, and with good reason. The good news is that before McDaniels was done cleaning out his office NFL.com was already quoting anonymous "sources close to the Broncos organization" that Kubiak would be Denvers automatic first choice if Houston DOES fire him; the job is his if he wants it. Shanny and Kubes suck at D, but I think Denver has the beginnings of a pretty good 3-4 once they find a coach with a freaking clue (and maybe just a SMIDGEN of integrity; the only thing worse than cheating your way to victory is cheating your way to defeat and then blaming a fall guy). The combination of Elway getting involved with the FO and Kubiak running the team has me feeling a little better about the future and, assuming there IS a 2011 season Denvers pick would currently be third. Assuming Bowlen and Co. have more sense than the people who want us to take YET ANOTHER QB in the first round it'll be our best pick since the early '90s (one of the downsides of that awful Coach Shanahan is that when you only have one losing season in a decade you don't get access to the top draft talent). Collective Bargaining Agreement or no CBA, nearly every starter except Champ is already locked up under contract for at least a few more years. Hopefully we've hit bottom and can start rebuilding with a quality draft class.
