The museum I worked at last summer was run by the village, so the village office manager boss lady person (not the mayor, but close bloody enough) was the one who gave me my checks. She would usually only come in to pick up the register (it is an old one, and dings when I open it ) money every Friday.

My two other bosses (for lack of a better term) are volunteers for the museum. They are also the two sweetest ladies you will ever meet. It is also a bonus that they really like me.

They all live right in town (pop. 282) and one lives right next door to the museum, so if I have a burning issue (rare) it isn't hard to get into contact with someone

For the most part, I get free rein to place small items where I like. If I want to move any of the larger exhibits around, I mostly have to ask and I'll get the green light almost immediately.

In other words, for my first summer job not working for family members, I loved it
